Nev has got Bury big heart

Gary Neville

EX-Man United star Gary Neville has stepped in to pay players’ wages at his struggling hometown football team.

Bury FC — just relegated to League Two — need £1million just to survive.
The club could go out of business unless new backers can be found.
Former England fullback Gary, 38, now a TV pundit, dipped into his own pocket after hearing of their plight.
PFA chief Gordon Taylor said yesterday: “That is typical of Gary’s character. We’re hoping everything goes well and they get the investment they need.”

Freddie Starr rearrested

Freddie Starr

COMEDIAN Freddie Starr was rearrested yesterday by police probing the Jimmy Savile sex abuse scandal.

Starr, 70, was quizzed all day over fresh allegations of sexual offences unrelated to his first arrest last November.
It is believed he was arrested as he answered bail at a police station near his home in Studley, Warwicks. The father of six was then bailed again until June.
Scotland Yard said yesterday’s questioning fell under an investigation strand called “others” — unconnected to Savile.
Starr was twice quizzed in November over claims he groped Karin Ward, then 14, after they appeared on Savile’s TV show Clunk Click in 1974.
Last year, Starr denied any wrongdoing, saying he had never met Karin. Video later emerged showing him alongside her and Savile.

Joy as Forrest Gump girl takes first step

Lillia, 4, just like film hero

Lillia Reading now

BRAVE Lillia Reading is finally learning to walk and run aged four — after she was given splints like Forrest Gump.

Lillia was born with a rare muscular disease which left both her knees permanently bent like a frog’s.
She developed just two muscles in each leg instead of 15 and got around by wheelchair or shuffling on her bottom.
But Lillia is now up and running — after medics cut the tendons behind her knees and attached splints to straighten her legs.
Mum Katie, 31, said: “They go from under her bum down to her ankle and bend round her knee.
“They are like cages that go around her legs — she looks like Forrest Gump.”
In the 1994 Tom Hanks film, Forrest sheds his splints while fleeing bullies as his friend shouts: “Run Forrest, run.”
Katie, who also has a son Harley, seven, added: “If she wants to get up and run around she can just pop them on, then take them off when she wants to sit.
“She’s a proper little princess — and now she can strut around like one too.”
Doctors diagnosed Lillia’s condition — a form of muscular myopathy they had never encountered — after she was born four weeks early, weighing 4lb 5oz. She had 13 ops but nothing worked — before the splints.
Lillia, from Sheffield, now goes to nursery and can’t wait to start primary school in September.
Her case is helping to develop research of her condition globally and she is in line for a child bravery award.
Proud dad Nick, 32, an engineer, said: “She has shown so much bravery and she’s always got a huge smile on her face.”

Forty people found alive in collapsed Dhaka factory rubble

rescue worker peers out from wreckage

RESCUERS have found 40 people alive in the twisted remains of the Dhaka garment factory building which collapsed on Wednesday.

Bangladeshi television showed images of survivors being pulled from the debris - more than 36 hours after they were buried under masses of concrete and steel.
So far more than 220 people have been killed in the disaster.
The group was found after they were heard screaming, a rescue official told the BBC.
An army spokesman said: "We've found 40 people alive in a room. They are being rescued."
Onlookers greeted news of the miracle rescue with cries of joy - though fears remain about many workers who are still unaccounted for.

The search for survivors resumed this morning after the building, in the Savar area of the city, fell down.
Meanwhile, the factory's owners are said to have gone into hiding after Dhaka police filed a case of causing unlawful death against them.
More than a thousand people were hurt when the eight-storey building crumbled to the ground.
It's feared the death toll will rise because 2,000 people were inside the Ranza Plaza building on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka at the time.
Children could be among them because the firm runs creches for women workers on three of the floors.
Local hospitals are said to have been overwhelmed by the arrival of over 1,000 injured people.
Some of the garments made at the factory are sold in budget clothes favourite Primark's stores across the UK.
The factory also supplied Matalan up until February.

Firemen and soldiers were today continuing to scour the rubble for survivors - watched by tens of thousands of weeping family members.
Rescuers could still hear cries for help from workers trapped inside, as witnesses said hundreds more may be buried.
A day of mourning has been declared today by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Building collapses are common in Bangladesh because many are built flouting regulations.

SCORES killed and hundreds injured in rubble of eight-storey block housing factories and shopping centre
Cracks on the building were first spotted on Tuesday and cops ordered for it to be evacuated.
But employees turned up work on Wednesday before being engulfed by tumbling masonry.
Survivor Shaheena Akhter, 23, said: "Some of us did not want to work fearing something might happen.
"But the garment factory people told us that we had to join our work otherwise we will lose our jobs."

A Primark spokesman said: "The company is shocked and deeply saddened by this appalling incident at Savar, near Dhaka, and expresses its condolences to all of those involved.
"Primark confirms that one of its suppliers occupied the second floor of the eight storey building, which housed several suppliers to the garment industry making clothing for a number of brands."
He added: "Primark has been engaged for several years with NGOs and other retailers to review the Bangladeshi industry's approach to factory standards. Primark will push for this review to also include building integrity.

"Meanwhile Primark's ethical trade team is at this moment working to collect information, assess which communities the workers come from, and to provide support where possible."
A spokesman for Matalan said one of the companies based there used to supply them.
He said: "We can confirm that New Wave has been a supplier to Matalan although we don't have any current production with them.

"We are deeply saddened by the news and we have been trying to get in touch with our contacts since we heard to check if we are able to assist."
A blaze at a garment factory in another Dhaka suburb killed some 110 people last November - and sparked a massive public outcry over lax safety standards.
It led many Western clothing firms whose garments are made in Bangladesh to urge local factory owners to improve working conditions.
At least 25 people lost their lives in 2010 when a four-storey building in the city fell down, with many more left injured.

Thatcher funeral cost just £3.6m — a THIRD of reported figure

Lady Thatcher received full military honours

LADY Thatcher’s funeral cost just £3.6million, The Sun can reveal.

The actual price of the Iron Lady’s ceremonial send-off has come in at a THIRD of the £10million figure bandied around by her left wing enemies.
Cabinet Office officials have calculated that the whole event at St Paul’s last Wednesday cost just £1.6m.
That includes the actual funeral service in the cathedral, the military parade up to it — staffed by 800 servicemen and women — and the policing costs for the mammoth security operation to protect it.
An extra £2million went on paying the 4,000 cops involved — but many of them would have been at work anyway.

Several left leaning national newspapers plastered the erroneous £10m sum over their front pages 48 hours after Lady T’s death on April 8.
That was leaped on by left wing Labour MPs, including Hackney’s Diane Abbott, to savage the farewell and ignite a bitter row.
At the time, the funeral's organiser Cabinet Office Minister Francis Maude warned the event would only cost “a fraction”.
Lady T’s family also chipped in to reduce the event's price tag further, but they are keeping the size of their bill confidential.
The sum means Maggie’s farewell was far cheaper than the Queen Mum’s 11 years earlier in 2002, which was priced at £6m.

French mag could be shut for FIVE YEARS for printing topless Kate photos

Kate was upset when a mag printed photos of her topless

A FRENCH magazine that published topless pictures of the Duchess of Cambridge could be shut down for FIVE YEARS if it is found guilty of breaching her privacy.

France’s Closer magazine has been placed under formal criminal investigation and its publisher Mondadori is being quizzed by prosecutors in Paris.
Photographer Valerie Suau is also being investigated and faces a year in jail for taking the long-lens snaps in the south of France last year.
The title sparked outrage by printing grainy images of Kate sunbathing on a private terrace while on holiday with husband Prince William in September.
Suau's employer, regional title La Provence, is also under investigation after it published photographs of the Duchess that did not show any nudity.
A spokesman for the prosecutor in the Paris suburb of Nanterre said: “The photographer and legal representatives of both companies have been questioned concerning the photographing of a person on private property and the criminal use of these images.
“The maximum penalty for this kind of offence is one year in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros (£38,350) for individuals.
“For corporate bodies, the fine is 45,000 euros, cessation of business for five years and public notification of the decision.”

A spokesman for St James’s Palace said: “The ongoing legal process is a matter for the French authorities.”
The development comes after the royal couple launched their own legal proceedings over the photos and a court in Paris banned Closer — which is separate from the UK’s Closer magazine — from publishing any further images.
Closer argued that the photos, taken while the couple holidayed at a chateau owned by the Queen’s nephew Viscount Linley, were shot from a public road.
William and Kate were furious at the intrusion into their privacy and made their feelings clear in a strongly worded statement was issued by St James’s Palace last year.
It said: “The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, and all the more upsetting to the Duke and Duchess for being so.”
Pictures were also published in Italian gossip magazine Chi — Closer’s sister magazine — and the Irish Daily Star, as the ruling did not cover publications outside France. No British newspapers printed them.

Ex-BBC Muslim convert jailed for 6 years for Wootton Bassett terror plot

Richard Dart who was jailed for six years at the Old Bailey today for terrorist offences

A WHITE Muslim convert who plotted a terror attack on soldiers and grieving families in the town of Royal Wootton Bassett has been jailed for six years.

Richard Dart, 30 - who was converted by the radical cleric Anjem Choudary - also discussed targeting members of the security services including "M15 or M16 heads".
The radical Muslim extremist - the son of teachers from Dorset - was branded “dangerous” by security services as he talked of targeting civilians and military in the UK.
Today the former BBC security guard refused to stand as he received an 11-year extended sentence a the Old Bailey.
Under the extended sentence provisions he received a six-year prison term with an additional five years on licence.
When released from prison, he will be on licence for five years and liable to recall at any stage of the period.

Dart and former PCSO and TA cadet Jahangir Alom, 26, tried to attend terror camps in the tribal areas of Pakistan and sought help from terror trained Imran Mahmood, 22.
Anti-terror police found Dart had a memory stick in which he named Choudary as an executor of his will and had £4,800 on him.
But once stopped from travelling Dart and Mahmood began plotting attacks in the UK despite being watched by the security services.
They would communicate by typing into a word document and then delete the files or writing texts on their mobiles and then showing each other the screens.
Unknown to them computer experts were able to recover some of the deleted files.
In one, Mahmood suggested targeting the Wiltshire town and the security services as British troops were returned through Royal Wootton Bassett.
Last year Dart, who has changed his name to Salahuddin al Britani, featured in a BBC documentary filmed by his own brother about his conversion to Islam.
During the film, called My Brother the Islamist, Dart was seen protesting about British soldiers in Afghanistan and calling them ’murderers’ and called for Sharia law to be established in Britain.
Alom’s wife Ruksana Begum, 22, of Islington, has already been sentenced to a year after pleaded guilty to possessing the al Qaeda magazines Inspire.
The trio were arrested in July of last year.
Dart, of Ealing, west London; Mahmood of Northolt, west London; and Alom of Stratford, east London, each pleaded guilty to one charge of engaging in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism between July 2010 and July 2012.
